2X2 Refleksija 2.

Man bija tāds prieks iepazīties ar citiem latviešiem no visas pasaules malām.

Man vissmiļākā daļa bija mūsu Jāņu un līgošanas svinības. Visu dienu mums visiem bija dažādi darbiņi lai gatavotos svētkiem. Es plūcu puķes un smilgas vainagu pīšanai. Citi taisīja pīrāgus un Jāņu sieru, un citi izpušķoja un sagatavoja svinēšanas vietu. Visu dienu mēs karstā saulē strādājām, bet gala svinībām bija visu to vērts. Es iepriekš biju svinējusi Jāņus Piesaulē New Hampshire. To vakar, bija visskaistākais saules riets ko jebkad biju redzējusi. Es vienumēr to atcerēšos.

Man šitā nometne bija ļoti vērtīga jo es bieži esmu ar latviešu draugiem, bet nekad man nav bijis tāda tautisks un folklorisks piedzīvojums!

Thanks to ALJA for this scholarship so that I could participate in the 2×2 camp. I didn’t really know what to expect before arriving at the camp, but I was excited because I had heard so many good things about 2×2 from my cousins and friends. When I arrived, I could immediately feel that each participant wanted to make friends and also experience Latvian society as much as they could. It was such a pleasure to meet other Latvians from all over the world.

I took part in a metal art class and there I was able to make various small sculptures that I took home with me and they will remind me of my time in the camp for the rest of my life. The most fun part for me was our Midsummer and Ligo celebrations. All day we all had different jobs to prepare for the holiday. I picked flowers and sedges for wreaths. Others made pies and cheese, and others decorated and prepared the place for the celebration. We worked all day in the hot sun, but the final celebration was worth it. I had previously celebrated Midsummer in New Hampshire. There is a beautiful celebration and a big bonfire with singing. But I had never experienced a traditional celebration like we had at 2×2. It was incredibly impressive to me because I never saw how a real Midsummer should be celebrated. We sang, danced, and threw bread, cheese, and garters into the fire. We did games and the girls did a wreath dance and threw wreaths on the St. John’s tree. That evening was the most beautiful sunset I had ever seen. I will always remember it.

Thank you very much for this opportunity to participate and fill my Latvian soul! This camp was very valuable to me because I am often with Latvian friends, but I have never had such a national and folkloric adventure!
